2020 has been an interesting year so far for me. First thing, I retired from my job with a major mainstream media company. Then, I took a new, volunteer, position at the local public school, in a kindergarten class. After only 2 1/2 months of that, school was cancelled for the rest of the year, meaning I will probably not see these kids again.
It’s hard to imagine that a grumpy old curmudgeon, deemed emotionally distant by at least one of his sons, with four grandchildren of his own (and who loves each one totally and as unconditionally as is possible) could become so attached to 22 new kids in such a short time. But I did. So now, what to do?
Here’s what I am going to do. Pray for these kids. Every day. I don’t know their back story. I don’t know their parents, or brothers, or sisters. But I know their names, and I know their faces. And I know God, who also knows them. So as I pray for my family, as I pray for my church family, I am also praying for these children, these kindergarten kids, who need to know God, and the power of Jesus’ resurrection.
And that’s what I’m asking you to do also. Today, when you read this, whenever that today is, and as Hebrews says, while it is still today, pray for them. I am convinced that God answers the prayers of those who believe in Him. The schools today don’t need public prayers in school spoken by people who don’t know God. They need people, who know God, to pray for the schools and the students, wherever they are. Today. And every day.
So today, pray for Azzy. Pray for Dallas. Pray for Nevaeh. Pray for Julia. Pray for Ace. Pray for Paisley. Pray for Gabby. Pray for Aria. Pray for Ryleigh. Pray for Erin. Pray for Pierce. Pray for Elenorah. Pray for Harper. Pray for Aiden. Pray for Jaice. Pray for Ava. Pray for Titus. Pray for Jaxson. Pray for Dakota. Pray for Wyatt. Pray for Kallie. Pray for Lynkin. And pray for Hope!
Pray for your own list of students, coworkers, neighbors, people in your church and community. Pray as if their life depends on it. Because, in this crazy 2020, it really does!
