Celebrating The Wonderful Grace of Jesus

I’ve been sitting on this post for seven months, thinking I would have some witty or pithy statements about Dad. That’s not going to happen anytime soon, and I’m even behind on getting his graveside service set up. So the next best thing, actually the best thing, no next about it, is to post Dad’s service from November with Pastor Lamberson. Maybe someday I’ll add more of my words, but for now, Pastor Lamberson said everything that matters.

If you missed Dad’s service in November, take a bit of time and listen now, or download to listen later. (The link is at the bottom of the post.)

We sang two hymns that didn’t make it on the recording. Since you can’t hear them, you can at least read the words. (Did you know that in a hymn, it’s the text that matters – the music is just to help you remember the text!)

Wonderful Grace of Jesus

Wonderful grace of Jesus greater than all my sin
How shall my tongue describe it
Where shall its praise begin
Taking away my burden setting my spirit free
For the wonderful grace of Jesus reaches me

Chorus
Wonderful the matchless grace of Jesus
Deeper than the mighty rolling sea
Higher than the mountain sparkling like a fountain
All-sufficient grace for even me
Broader than the scope of my transgressions
Greater far than all my sin and shame
O magnify the precious name of Jesus
Praise His name

Verse 2
Wonderful grace of Jesus reaching to all the lost
By it I have been pardoned saved to the uttermost
Chains have been torn asunder giving me liberty
For the wonderful grace of Jesus reaches me

Verse 3
Wonderful grace of Jesus reaching the most defiled
By its transforming power
Making Him God’s dear child
Purchasing peace and heaven for all eternity
For the wonderful grace of Jesus reaches me

Grace Greater Than Our Sin
Marvelous grace of our loving Lord,
Grace that exceeds our sin and our guilt,
Yonder on Calvary’s mount outpoured,
There where the blood of the Lamb was spilt!

Chorus
Grace, grace, God’s grace,
Grace that will pardon and cleanse within!
Grace, grace, God’s grace,
Grace that is greater than all our sin!

Verse 2
Sin and despair, like the sea waves cold,
Threaten the soul with infinite loss.
Grace that is greater, yes, grace untold,
Points to the refuge, the mighty Cross.

Verse 3
Dark is the stain that we cannot hide.
What can avail to wash it away?
Look! There is flowing a crimson tide;
Whiter than snow you may be today.

Verse 4
Marvelous, infinite, matchless grace,
Freely bestowed on all who believe!
You that are longing to see His face,
Will you this moment His grace receive?
