Hosanna or No-sanna?

On which side of the coin was your church yesterday?  Did you sing “Hosanna”?  Or were you on the No-sanna side?

Here’s what the gospel writers had to say (they ALL acknowledged the triumphal entry):

Matthew 21: 9 “Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!”

Luke 19:38 “saying, “Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!””

Mark 11:9-10 “And those who went before and those who followed were shouting, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!  Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David! Hosanna in the highest!””

John 12:13 “So they took branches of palm trees and went out to meet him, crying out, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel!””

I’m happy to say that our church was on the Hosanna! side with the following songs “All Glory, Laud and Honor” and “Crown Him with Many Crowns” (no hosannas but still on point), and “Lord, I Lift Your Name On High”.

All Glory, Laud and Honor
Verse 1
All glory, laud and honor
To Thee, Redeemer, King,
To whom the lips of children
Made sweet hosannas ring:
Thou art the King of Israel,
Thou David’s royal Son,
Who in the Lord’s name comest,
The King and Blessed One.

Verse 2
The company of angels
Are praising Thee on high,
And mortal men and all
Things created make reply:
The people of the Hebrews
With palms before Thee went:
Our praise and prayer and anthems
Before Thee we present.

Verse 3
To Thee before Thy passion
They sang their hymns of praise
To Thee now high exalted
Our melody we raise
Thou didst accept their praises
Accept the praise we bring
Who in all good delightest
Thou good and gracious King

Verse 4
Thou didst accept their praises
Accept the praise we bring
Who in all good delightest
Thou good and gracious King
All glory laud and honor
To Thee Redeemer King
To whom the lips of children
Made sweet hosannas ring
