The story for the people

You need to know God!

Pastor Lamberson posted a video yesterday on the church website and YouTube channel, from Psalm 46:10-11, on the concept of knowing God. I’ll post the link below so you can listen.

Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!” The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.

I saw more of this discussion, this need to know God, as I was reading Alistair Begg’s book ‘Praying Big’, in which he looks at Paul’s prayers for the Ephesians, as a model for our prayer. In one section, he quoted from Ephesians 1, and Paul’s prayer that…

…the Father of glory, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him, having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe…

Begg then went on to say: (highlight is mine)

Today, as we struggle with isolation, feelings of loneliness and even abandonment, as we wonder when this will ever end, we need to take a step back, to, as the Psalmist said, ‘be still, and know’ God. We need to know Him first and foremost as savior, through the work of Jesus, and then to know Him as Father, and to know what that means to us in our inheritance, as Paul (and Begg) talk about here. We need, as Pastor Paul says in a rare alliteration, to know God’s presence, His plan, and His promise. What better time to get to know God than right now!
