Far more abundantly

Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen. (Ephesians 3:20-21 ESV)

I was studying this statement by Paul this morning, thinking about it in preparation for Sunday School this week. As Paul prays on behalf of the Ephesian church in verses 14-19, he prays that they would be strengthened by, and understand, or comprehend, the immeasurable power and love of Christ, and here he says God can do “far more abundantly” than even that.

How appropriate that the first song on my playlist when I turned on my background music was “Come, thou fount of every blessing, tune my heart to sing Thy praise!” The fount of every blessing is able to do far more abundantly than we ask or think, so yes, we should sing His praises – to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus forever and ever!
