Nothing. Hallelujah!

I got a new CD for Christmas – Hymns for a Modern Reformation. The text was all written by Dr. James Montgomery Boice, who was pastor at Philadelphia’s Tenth Presbyterian Church for 32 years until his death in June 2000.  These 12 hymns were his last project, done with Dr. Paul Jones, organist and music director at the same church.

These really are hymns – all have four or five verses and are done by the church choir, organist and Westminster Brass.  Because of that, they’re not for everyone, especially those of you who can only sing or enjoy music with a guitar and drum set.  If that’s the case, it’s your loss.  You really need to expand your horizons.

Here are a couple verses from two different hymns.

Hallelujah!

What can separate my soul
From the God who made me whole,
Wrote my name in Heaven’s scroll?
Nothing. Hallelujah!

Victors we’re ordained to be
By the God who set us free;
What can therefore conquer me?
Nothing. Hallelujah!

We face death for God each day;
What can pluck us from His way?
Let God’s people ever say,
“Nothing.” Hallelujah!

Come to the Waters

Come to the waters, whoever is thirsty;
Drink from the Fountain that never runs dry.
Jesus, the Living One, offers you mercy,
Life more abundant in boundless supply.

Come to the well of unmerited favor;
Stretch out your hand; fill your cup to the brim.
Jesus is such a compassionate Savior.
Draw from the grace that flows freely from him.

Come to the Savior, the God of salvation.
God has provided an end to sin’s strife.
Why will you suffer the Law’s condemnation?
Take the free gift of the water of life.
