Thy mercy, my God, is the theme of my song,\u00a0
The joy of my heart, and the boast of my tongue;\u00a0
Thy free grace alone, from the first to the last,\u00a0
Has won my affections, and bound my soul fast.\u00a0
Thy mercy, in Jesus, exempts me from hell;\u00a0
Its glories I\u2019ll sing, and its wonders I\u2019ll tell;\u00a0
\u2019Twas Jesus, my Friend, when he hung on the tree,\u00a0
Who opened the channel of mercy for me.\u00a0
Without thy sweet mercy I could not live here;\u00a0
Sin soon would reduce me to utter despair;\u00a0
But, through thy free goodness, my spirits revive,\u00a0
And he that first made me still keeps me alive.\u00a0
Thy mercy is more than a match for my heart,\u00a0
Which wonders to feel its own hardness depart;\u00a0
Dissolved by thy goodness, I fall to the ground,\u00a0
And weep to the praise of the mercy I found.\u00a0
The door of thy mercy stands open all day,\u00a0
To the poor and the needy, who knock by the way.\u00a0
No sinner shall ever be empty sent back,\u00a0
Who comes seeking mercy for Jesus\u2019s sake.\u00a0
Great Father of mercies, thy goodness I own,\u00a0
And the covenant love of thy crucified Son;\u00a0
All praise to the Spirit, whose whisper divine\u00a0
Seals mercy, and pardon, and righteousness mine.
