{"id":74,"date":"2010-04-02T23:19:09","date_gmt":"2010-04-03T03:19:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jdackerman.com\/miscellany\/?p=74"},"modified":"2010-04-02T23:19:09","modified_gmt":"2010-04-03T03:19:09","slug":"out-of-ivory-palaces","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jdackerman.com\/miscellany\/2010\/04\/02\/out-of-ivory-palaces\/","title":{"rendered":"Out of Ivory Palaces"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We spent the evening with my parents, who are visiting for the Easter celebration.\u00a0 Our discussion turned to music, and Denise and I played a couple of songs for Mom and Dad, including one of Mom&#8217;s favorites, He Giveth More Grace.\u00a0 Dad asked if we had the music for his favorite song, which, unfortunately, we didn&#8217;t.\u00a0 Denise was able to find a copy and played it for him, but while we were searching, we realized that this hymn has been taken out of all of our recent hymnals.\u00a0 It&#8217;s amazing how many of our hymns have fallen by the wayside, many great texts forgotten, as we move from one style of music to another.<\/p>\n<p>This hymn is especially pertinent today, as we remember Christ&#8217;s death and burial, and look forward to His resurrection and ultimate return as our King.\u00a0 It was taken from Psalm 45, a Messianic psalm.\u00a0 Here is portion of the text of that Psalm, followed by the words of the hymn.<\/p>\n<p>Psalm 45<\/p>\n<p><sup id=\"en-ESV-14602\">4<\/sup>In your majesty ride out  victoriously<br \/>\nfor the cause of truth and meekness and  righteousness;<br \/>\nlet your right hand teach you awesome deeds!<br \/>\n<sup id=\"en-ESV-14603\">5<\/sup>Your arrows are sharp<br \/>\nin  the heart of the king\u2019s enemies;<br \/>\nthe peoples fall under you.\u00a0<sup id=\"en-ESV-14604\">6<\/sup> Your throne, O God, is  forever and ever.<br \/>\nThe scepter of your kingdom is a scepter of  uprightness;<\/p>\n<p><sup id=\"en-ESV-14605\">7<\/sup> you have  loved righteousness and hated wickedness.<br \/>\nTherefore God, your God, has anointed  you<br \/>\nwith the oil of gladness beyond your companions;<\/p>\n<p><sup id=\"en-ESV-14606\">8<\/sup>your robes are all fragrant  with myrrh  and aloes and cassia.<br \/>\nFrom ivory palaces stringed instruments  make you glad;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ivory Palaces<\/strong> <em>by Henry Barraclough<\/em><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>My Lord has garments so wondrous fine,<br \/>\nAnd myrrh their texture fills;<br \/>\nIts fragrance reached to this heart of mine<br \/>\nWith joy my being thrills.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Out of the ivory palaces,<br \/>\nInto a world of woe,<br \/>\nOnly His great eternal love<br \/>\nMade my Savior go.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>His life had also its sorrows sore,<br \/>\nFor aloes had a part;<br \/>\nAnd when I think of the cross He bore,<br \/>\nMy eyes with teardrops start.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>(Refrain)<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>His garments too were in cassia dipped,<br \/>\nWith healing in a touch;<br \/>\nEach time my feet in some sin have slipped,<br \/>\nHe took me from its clutch.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>(Refrain)<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In garments glorious He will come,<br \/>\nTo open wide the door;<br \/>\nAnd I shall enter my heav\u2019nly home,<br \/>\nTo dwell forevermore.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>(Refrain)<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We spent the evening with my parents, who are visiting for the Easter celebration.\u00a0 Our discussion turned to music, and Denise and I played a couple of songs for Mom and Dad, including one of Mom&#8217;s favorites, He Giveth More Grace.\u00a0 Dad asked if we had the music for his favorite song, which, unfortunately, we&hellip;
