{"id":604,"date":"2011-02-20T15:58:04","date_gmt":"2011-02-20T20:58:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jdackerman.com\/miscellany\/?p=604"},"modified":"2011-02-20T15:58:04","modified_gmt":"2011-02-20T20:58:04","slug":"o-happy-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jdackerman.com\/miscellany\/2011\/02\/20\/o-happy-day\/","title":{"rendered":"O Happy Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Honestly, of the hymns I have read so far from &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.graceandtruthbooks.com\/product\/the-hymns-of-philip-doddridge\" target=\"_blank\">The Hymns of Philip Doddridge<\/a>&#8220;, this is the only text that is familiar to me.\u00a0 That&#8217;s not to say there aren&#8217;t good, solid texts, it just may hint to the popularity of the tunes to which they were sung.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/bkauflin\" target=\"_blank\">Bob Kauflin<\/a> recently posted on twitter &#8220;<em>Great music can make bad lyrics seem profound. <strong>Bad music can make great lyrics hard to hear.<\/strong> Music matters.<\/em>&#8221;\u00a0 Maybe Doddridge just needed a new tune-smith.<\/p>\n<p>This text takes a good look at our salvation, from our &#8220;free will&#8221; and need to make a choice in verse 1 to the actual source of that free will in verse 3, where the transaction is recognized as originating with God, as He drew us, we followed, and now confess.\u00a0 He is, after all, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Hebrews%2012:2&amp;version=HCSB\" target=\"_blank\">the source and perfecter of our faith<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">O happy day, that fix&#8217;d my choice<br \/>\nOn Thee, my Saviour, and my God!<br \/>\nWell may this glowing heart rejoice,<br \/>\nAnd tell its raptures all abroad.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">O happy bond, that seals my vows<br \/>\nTo Him, who merits all my love!<br \/>\nLet cheerful anthems fill His house,<br \/>\nWhile to that sacred shrine I move.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8216;Tis done;
