Anne Steele<\/a> wrote this hymn<\/a> in the mid- to late 1700’s. The thoughts and emotions are just as applicable today as then. Her version had 8 four-line verses, the modernized version put to music by Kevin Twit<\/a> has changed that to 4 eight-line verses, eliminated one set \u00a0and repeated the last.<\/p>\n

\nDear refuge of my weary soul,<\/span>
\n<\/span>On thee, when sorrows rise ;<\/span>
\n<\/span>On thee, when waves of trouble roll,\u00a0<\/span>
My fainting hope relies.<\/span><\/p>\n

While hope revives, though prest with fears,\u00a0<\/span>
