{"id":368,"date":"2010-08-26T00:22:58","date_gmt":"2010-08-26T04:22:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jdackerman.com\/miscellany\/?p=368"},"modified":"2010-08-26T00:22:58","modified_gmt":"2010-08-26T04:22:58","slug":"wealth-at-your-fingertips","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jdackerman.com\/miscellany\/2010\/08\/26\/wealth-at-your-fingertips\/","title":{"rendered":"Wealth at your fingertips"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>How much wealth we have, right at our fingertips, which is so easily overlooked or ignored.\u00a0 Reading through Gadsby&#8217;s Hymns, I came on these two Charles Wesley hymns, found back to back at numbers 1053 and 1054, and most likely found in most hymnals of the last century.\u00a0 The words may be familiar to you, and they may bring a hymn tune to mind.\u00a0 If they do, take a moment and think on what Wesley is trying to convey.\u00a0 Even if they aren&#8217;t familiar, read through them again and take advantage of the wealth of wisdom and understanding to be gained from this man of God.<\/p>\n<p>#1053\u00a0 CW<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Love divine, all love excelling,<br \/>\nJoy of heaven, to earth come down!<br \/>\nFix in us thy humble dwelling;<br \/>\nAll thy faithful mercies crown.<br \/>\nJesus, thou art all compassion;<br \/>\nPure unbounded love thou art;<br \/>\nVisit us with thy salvation;<br \/>\nComfort every sinking heart.<\/p>\n<p>Breathe, O breathe thy blessed Spirit<br \/>\nInto every troubled breast!<br \/>\nLet us all in thee inherit;<br \/>\nLet us find thy promised rest.<br \/>\nTake away the love of sinning;<br \/>\nAlpha and Omega be;<br \/>\nEnd of faith, as its beginning,<br \/>\nSet our hearts at liberty.<\/p>\n<p>Carry on thy new creation;<br \/>\nPure and holy may we be;<br \/>\nLet us see our whole salvation<br \/>\nPerfectly secured by thee;<br \/>\nChanged from glory into glory,<br \/>\nTill in heaven we take our place;<br \/>\nTill we cast our crowns before thee,<br \/>\nLost in wonder, love, and praise.<\/p>\n<p>#1054\u00a0 CW<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">COME, thou long expected Jesus!<br \/>\nBorn to set thy people free;<br \/>\nFrom our fear and sins release us;<br \/>\nLet us find our rest in thee.<br \/>\nIsrael&#8217;s strength and consolation,<br \/>\nHope of all the saints thou art;<br \/>\nDear desire of every nation,<br \/>\nJoy of every longing heart.<\/p>\n<p>Born thy children to deliver,<br \/>\nBorn a child and yet a king;<br \/>\nBorn to reign in us for ever,<br \/>\nNow thy gracious kingdom bring.<br \/>\nBy thy own eternal Spirit,<br \/>\nRule in all our hearts alone;<br \/>\nBy thy all-sufficient merit,<br \/>\nRaise us to thy glorious throne.<\/p>\n<p>Take a minute and think of how the theme of the first leads right into the theme of the second.\u00a0 Christ, the Love Divine, the Joy of Heaven, born to visit us with His salvation.\u00a0 Born to rule in our hearts and by His merit raise us to His throne.<\/p>\n<p>Wonderful, isn&#8217;t it?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>How much wealth we have, right at our fingertips, which is so easily overlooked or ignored.\u00a0 Reading through Gadsby&#8217;s Hymns, I came on these two Charles Wesley hymns, found back to back at numbers 1053 and 1054, and most likely found in most hymnals of the last century.\u00a0 The words may be familiar to you,&hellip;
