two of my favorite newer albums (can we still call them albums?).\u00a0 <em><strong>Upward<\/strong><\/em>, the Bob Kauflin Hymns Project and <em><strong>Valley of Vision<\/strong><\/em>, based on the Puritan Prayers of the same name.\u00a0 Wonderful text, some old hymns and some new, great melody lines, all in all a tremendous tool for personal reflection.\u00a0 We have used many of these songs as congregational singing at church, and had others done as special music to fit a particular theme or purpose.\u00a0 Two of my favorites, even though it&#8217;s hard to pick favorites, are retooled older songs by Augustus M Toplady.\u00a0 I had grown weary of the classic <strong>Rock of Ages <\/strong>tune to the point that I had no idea what the text even said, and that is a shame.<\/p>\n<p>Rock of Ages, cleft for me,<br \/>\nLet me hide myself in Thee;<br \/>\nLet the water and the blood,<br \/>\nFrom Thy wounded side which flowed,<br \/>\nBe of sin the double cure,<br \/>\nSave from wrath and make me pure.<\/p>\n<p>All the labors of my hands<br \/>\ncould not fill Thy law&#8217;s demands;<br \/>\nCould my zeal no respite know,<br \/>\nCould my tears forever flow,<br \/>\nAll for sin could not atone;<br \/>\nThou must save, and Thou alone.<\/p>\n<p>Nothing in my hands I bring,<br \/>\nSimply to Thy cross I cling;<br \/>\nNaked, come to Thee for dress,<br \/>\nHelpless, look to Thee for grace;<br \/>\nTo Thy fountain, Lord I fly,<br \/>\nWash me Savior, or I die!<\/p>\n<p>While I draw this fleeting breath,<br \/>\nWhen my eyes shall close in death,<br \/>\nWhen I soar to worlds unknown,<br \/>\nSee Thee on Thy judgement throne,<br \/>\nRock of Ages, cleft for me,<br \/>\nLet me hide myself in Thee.<\/p>\n<p>It was sung by rote, with no thought.\u00a0 The haunting\u00a0 melody on Upward brings the great old lyrics to life.<\/p>\n<p><strong>A Debtor to Mercy Alone <\/strong>is the other Toplady text on this album, and is worth the price of the CD all by itself.\u00a0 This is one of my most quoted songs:<\/p>\n<p>A debtor to mercy alone,<br \/>\nof covenant mercy I sing.<br \/>\nI come with your righteousness on,<br \/>\nmy humble off&#8217;ring to bring.<br \/>\nThe judgements of your holy law<br \/>\nwith me can have nothing to do.<br \/>\nMy Savior&#8217;s obedience and blood<br \/>\nhide all my transgressions from view.<\/p>\n<p>The work which your goodness began,<br \/>\nthe arm of your strength will complete.<br \/>\nYour promise is yes and amen,<br \/>\nand never was forfeited yet.<br \/>\nThe future or things that are now,<br \/>\nno power below or above,<br \/>\ncan make you your purpose forego,<br \/>\nor sever my soul from your love.<\/p>\n<p>My name from the palms of your hands,<br \/>\neternity will not erase.<br \/>\nImpressed on your heart it remains<br \/>\nin marks of indelible grace.<br \/>\nYes I, to the end, will endure,<br \/>\nuntil I bow down at your throne.<br \/>\nForever and always secure,<br \/>\na debtor to mercy, alone.<\/p>\n<p>Add the newer &#8220;I Will Glory in My Redeemer&#8221;
