{"id":2205,"date":"2014-09-01T15:09:57","date_gmt":"2014-09-01T19:09:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jdackerman.com\/miscellany\/?p=2205"},"modified":"2014-09-06T13:36:56","modified_gmt":"2014-09-06T17:36:56","slug":"ive-been-challenged","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jdackerman.com\/miscellany\/2014\/09\/01\/ive-been-challenged\/","title":{"rendered":"I&#8217;ve been challenged&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>My dear sister recently succumbed to the rash of challenges for the ALS Ice Bucket campaign, posted her\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/video.php?v=10152587682533190&amp;set=vb.760793189&amp;type=2&amp;theater\" target=\"_blank\">video<\/a>\u00a0on Facebook and proceeded to challenge me. Like her, I decided to not waste the water poured over my head. Olivia, one of my granddaughters, asked\u00a0to help me in fulfilling my response to this challenge, and in our\u00a0video she issues a challenge to three of her friends. My challenge follows the video.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"780\" height=\"439\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ScB-izUj92I?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p>ALS is a terrible disease. I have known, and know, people who have suffered through this insidious\u00a0disease. Some I know are still fighting it.<\/p>\n<p>Did you know there is a disease worse than ALS? It&#8217;s another disease with a three-letter name, but it isn&#8217;t an acronym &#8211; SIN. Unlike ALS, SIN doesn&#8217;t affect just 2 people out of 100,000, it affects us all, every one of us. And sin\u00a0is even deadlier than ALS. Again unlike ALS, there is a cure for sin. It is outlined in the Gospel:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #363030;\">\u201cFor God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that <em><strong>whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life<\/strong><\/em>. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.<\/span><em><span style=\"color: #363030;\"> (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.esvbible.org\/John%203%3A16-21\/\" target=\"_blank\">John 3:16-18 ESV<\/a>)<\/span><\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>My donation, and my challenge to other Christians, is to support those who are helping spread the Gospel, God&#8217;s good news about the cure for sin through the saving work of Jesus Christ, around the world. Specifically, Olivia, Denise and I are donating $100 to support Kim Hecht as she works to spread the Gospel in Croatia.<\/p>\n<p>My challenge is to\u00a0all Christians to support a missionary.
