{"id":14,"date":"2010-03-11T19:00:50","date_gmt":"2010-03-12T00:00:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jdackerman.com\/miscellany\/?p=14"},"modified":"2010-03-11T20:32:38","modified_gmt":"2010-03-12T01:32:38","slug":"the-palms-of-his-hand","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jdackerman.com\/miscellany\/2010\/03\/11\/the-palms-of-his-hand\/","title":{"rendered":"The Palms of His Hand"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today&#8217;s reading passage in my project to read through the Bible this year was in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=isaiah%2046%20-%2050&amp;version=ESV\" target=\"_blank\">Isaiah, chapters 46-50<\/a>.\u00a0 It&#8217;s amazing how there\u00a0 is always something to take away, a phrase that strikes home, a glimpse into a deeper meaning from another reference passage, or maybe a thought of a hymn or other song, regardless of the book or passage.\u00a0 For instance, today&#8217;s passage included the phrase in 49:16, &#8220;<strong>Behold, I  have engraved you on the palms of my hands; your walls are  continually before me.<\/strong>&#8221;\u00a0 This immediately brought to mind the song by Augustus Toplady, &#8220;A Debtor to Mercy Alone&#8221;.\u00a0 In the third verse, Toplady builds on that thought with these words:<\/p>\n<p>My name from the palms of His hands eternity will not erase;<br \/>\nImpressed on His heart it remains, in marks of indelible grace.<\/p>\n<p>Another quote from this passage: &#8220;&#8221;There is no peace,&#8221; says the LORD, &#8220;for the wicked.&#8221;&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>This section closes in chapter 50 with these words of comfort for those who trust in the Lord and warning for those trusting in themselves.<\/p>\n<p>Who among you fears the  LORD<br \/>\nand obeys the voice of his servant?<br \/>\nLet  him who walks in darkness<br \/>\nand has no light<br \/>\ntrust in the  name of the LORD<br \/>\nand rely on his God.<\/p>\n<p>Behold, all you who kindle a  fire,<br \/>\nwho equip yourselves with burning torches!<br \/>\nWalk by  the light of your fire,<br \/>\nand by the torches that you have kindled!<br \/>\nThis  you have from my hand:<br \/>\nyou shall lie down in torment.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Today&#8217;s reading passage in my project to read through the Bible this year was in Isaiah, chapters 46-50.\u00a0 It&#8217;s amazing how there\u00a0 is always something to take away, a phrase that strikes home, a glimpse into a deeper meaning from another reference passage, or maybe a thought of a hymn or other song, regardless of&hellip;
