Gadsby&#8217;s Hymns points us to Hebrews 6 and Titus 1 as the scriptural source for the text.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">&#8220;The Christian&#8217;s Hope Can Never Fail&#8221;.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\">We travel through a barren land,<br \/>\nWith dangers thick on every hand ;<br \/>\nBut Jesus guides us through the vale;<br \/>\nThe Christian&#8217;s hope can never fail.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Huge sorrows meet us as we go,<br \/>\nAnd devils aim our overthrow;<br \/>\nBut vile infernals can&#8217;t prevail;<br \/>\nThe Christian&#8217;s hope shall never fail.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Sometimes we&#8217;re tempted to despair<br \/>\nBut Jesus makes us then his care;<br \/>\nThough numerous foes our souls assail,<br \/>\nThe Christian&#8217;s hope shall never fail.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">We trust upon the sacred word &#8211;<br \/>\nThe oath and promise of our Lord;<br \/>\nAnd safely through each tempest sail;<br \/>\nThe Christian&#8217;s hope shall never fail.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">What great assurances that our hope in Christ is not hope as we usually use the word, but is actually a sure thing!<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\">For when God made a promise to Abraham, since he had no one greater by whom to swear,\u00a0he swore by himself,\u00a0saying,\u00a0\u201cSurely I will bless you and multiply you.\u201d\u00a0And thus Abraham,\u00a0having patiently waited, obtained the promise.\u00a0For people swear by something greater than themselves, and in all their disputes\u00a0an oath is final for confirmation.\u00a0So when God desired to show more convincingly to\u00a0the heirs of the promise\u00a0the unchangeable character of his purpose,\u00a0he guaranteed it with an oath,\u00a0so that by two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, <em><strong>we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to hold fast to the hope\u00a0set before us.\u00a0We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into\u00a0the inner place behind the curtain,\u00a0where Jesus has gone\u00a0as a forerunner on our behalf,<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0having become a high priest forever after the order of Melchizedek.\u00a0(Hebrews 6:13-20, ESV)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\">for the sake of the faith of God&#8217;s elect and\u00a0their knowledge of the truth,\u00a0which accords with godliness,\u00a0<em><strong>in hope of eternal life, which God,\u00a0who never lies,\u00a0promised before the ages began\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>(Titus 1:1-2, ESV)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>My thoughts keep coming back to this hymn, by an unknown author, published in 1799 in Gospel Mag.
