{"id":692,"date":"2011-04-20T19:03:03","date_gmt":"2011-04-20T23:03:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jdackerman.com\/miscellany\/?page_id=692"},"modified":"2011-04-20T19:03:03","modified_gmt":"2011-04-20T23:03:03","slug":"hymn-of-the-day","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/jdackerman.com\/miscellany\/hymn-of-the-day\/","title":{"rendered":"Hymn of the Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The apostle Paul gave us an idea of how we are to communicate with each other in his letter to the church at Ephesus.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart, giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,&#8221; <em>Ephesians 5:19-20, ESV<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>We have been doing just that for a long time.\u00a0 Evidence of singing in the Bible goes back to Moses and Miriam in the wilderness, continues with Hannah&#8217;s song, the songs of David and the other psalmists, and throughout the New Testament with Elizabeth and Mary, and will not stop until we sing a new song as noted in Revelations.<\/p>\n<p>Christians have been singing and writing songs through the ages, many of these have been lost to us today, many are still available but overlooked, and many new hymns and songs are being written today. This page will devoted to hymn texts, old and new, written by people like Isaac Watts, Fanny Crosby, John Newton, Keith Getty, Stuart Townend and many, many more, in an attempt to help focus your thoughts on the glory of God, and encourage you to sing praises to Him, as Charles Wesley did in my favorite hymn of all time, &#8220;O For a Thousand Tongues to Sing&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">O for a thousand tongues to sing<br \/>\nMy great Redeemer&#8217;s praise,<br \/>\nThe glories of my God and King,<br \/>\nThe triumphs of His grace!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Jesus!
