Another hymn based on a specific name of God, this time YHWH-Rapha, written by William Cowper and published in 1799. The name comes from Exodus 15:26 (HCSB) “He said, \u201cIf you will carefully obey the Lord your God, do what is right in His eyes, pay attention to His commands, and keep all His statutes, I will not inflict any illnesses on you that I inflicted on the Egyptians. For I AM<\/em><\/strong> Yahweh who heals you<\/strong><\/em>.\u201d”<\/p>\n

JEHOVAH-ROPHI, I AM THE LORD THAT HEALETH THEE.<\/p>\n

HEAL us, EMMANUEL, here we are,
\nWaiting to feel thy touch;
\nDeep wounded souls to thee repair,
\nAnd, Saviour, we are such.<\/p>\n

Our faith is feeble we confess,
\nWe faintly trust thy word;
\nBut wilt thou pity us the less?
\nBe that far from thee, LORD!<\/p>\n

Remember him who once apply’d
\nWith trembling for relief;
\n“LORD, I believe, with tears he cry’d,
\n“O help my unbelief.”<\/p>\n

She too, who touch’d thee in the press,
\nAnd healing virtue stole;
\nWas answer’d, “Daughter, go in peace,
\n“Thy faith hath made thee whole.”<\/p>\n

Conceal’d amid the gath’ring throng,
\nShe would have shunn’d thy view;
\nAnd if her faith was firm and strong,
\nHad strong misgivings too.<\/p>\n

Like her, with hopes and fears, we come,
\nTo touch thee if we may;
\nOh! send us not despairing home,
\nSend none unheard away.<\/p>\n
