The lesson learned by Abraham (and Isaac) is one we should not forget for our own lives.<\/p>\n<p>Tho&#8217; troubles assail<br \/>\nAnd dangers affright,<br \/>\nTho&#8217; friends should all fail<br \/>\nAnd foes all unite;<br \/>\nYet one thing secures us,<br \/>\nWhatever betide,<br \/>\nThe scripture assures us,<br \/>\nThe LORD will provide.<\/p>\n<p>The birds without barn<br \/>\nOr storehouse are fed,<br \/>\nFrom them let us learn<br \/>\nTo trust for our bread:<br \/>\nHis saints, what is fitting,<br \/>\nShall ne&#8217;er be deny&#8217;d,<br \/>\nSo long as &#8217;tis written,<br \/>\nThe LORD will provide.<\/p>\n<p>We may, like the ships,<br \/>\nBy tempests be tost<br \/>\nOn perilous deeps,<br \/>\nBut cannot be lost:<br \/>\nTho&#8217; Satan enrages<br \/>\nThe wind and the tide,<br \/>\nThe promise engages,<br \/>\nThe LORD will provide.<\/p>\n<p>His call we obey<br \/>\nLike Abra&#8217;m of old,<br \/>\nNot knowing our way,<br \/>\nBut faith makes us bold;<br \/>\nFor tho&#8217; we are strangers<br \/>\nWe have a good Guide,<br \/>\nAnd trust in all dangers,<br \/>\nThe LORD will provide.<\/p>\n<p>When Satan appears<br \/>\nTo stop up our path,<br \/>\nAnd fill us with fears,<br \/>\nWe triumph by faith;<br \/>\nHe cannot take from us,<br \/>\nTho&#8217; oft he has try&#8217;d,<br \/>\nThis heart-cheering promise,<br \/>\nThe LORD will provide.<\/p>\n<p>He tells us we&#8217;re weak,<br \/>\nOur hope is in vain,<br \/>\nThe good that we seek<br \/>\nWe ne&#8217;er shall obtain;<br \/>\nBut when such suggestions<br \/>\nOur spirits have ply&#8217;d,<br \/>\nThis answers all questions,<br \/>\nThe LORD will provide.<\/p>\n<p>No strength of our own,<br \/>\nOr goodness we claim,<br \/>\nYet since we have known<br \/>\nThe Saviour&#8217;s great name;<br \/>\nIn this our strong tower<br \/>\nFor safety we hide,<br \/>\nThe LORD is our power,<br \/>\nThe LORD will provide.<\/p>\n<p>When life sinks apace<br \/>\nAnd death is in view,<br \/>\nThis word of his grace<br \/>\nShall comfort us thro&#8217;:<br \/>\nNo fearing or doubting<br \/>\nWith CHRIST on our side,<br \/>\nWe hope to die shouting,<br \/>\nThe LORD will provide.<\/p>\n<p><em>John Newton<\/em><br \/>\n<em>in &#8220;John Newton&#8217;s Olney Hymns&#8221;, republished by Curiosmith in 2011<\/em><\/p>\n<p>A good setting for this hymn is the tune for &#8220;Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise&#8221;.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>John Newton (Amazing Grace) wrote this hymn text glorifying the name of God, Jehovah-Jireh, and it was published in the original Olney Hymns in 1779.
