To shepherds, as they watched by night,
\nAppeared a troop of angels bright;
\nBehold the tender babe, they said,
\nIn yonder lowly manger laid.<\/p>\n
At Bethlehem, in David’s town,
\nAs Micah did of old make known;-
\n‘Tis Jesus Christ, your Lord and King,
\nWho doth to all salvation bring.<\/p>\n
Rejoice ye, then, that through his Son
\nGod is with sinners now at one;
\nMade like yourselves of flesh and blood,
\nYour brother is th’ eternal Good.<\/p>\n
What harm can sin and death then do?
\nThe true God now abides with you:
\nLet hell and Satan chide and chafe,
\nGod is your fellow-ye are safe.<\/p>\n
Not one he will nor can forsake
\nWho him his confidence doth make:
\nLet all his wiles the tempter try,
\nYou may his utmost powers defy.<\/p>\n
You must prevail at last, for ye
