This hymn text was written in the early 19th century by Samuel Boyce. \u00a0The text appears in “Gadsby’s Hymns” \u00a0and “A Selection of Hymns for the use of Baptist Congregations”, published in 1846, to be used as a supplement to Dr. Watts’ \u00a0Psalms and Hymns. \u00a0It could be sung \u00a0very easily\u00a0to the tune commonly used for “O God, Our Help in Ages Past”.<\/p>\n
Great sovereign Lord, what human eye
\nAmidst thy works can rove,
\nAnd not thy liberal hand espy,
\nNor trace thy bounteous love?<\/p>\n
Each star that gilds the heavenly frame,
\nOn earth each verdant clod,
\nIn language loud to men proclaim

The lesson each revolving year
\nRepeats in various ways;
