More peace – abundant peace

Remember Isaiah quoted God as saying “There is no peace for the wicked” and Paul said that “He (Jesus) himself is our peace”.

The Psalmist follows these same lines in Psalm 37, and even manages to provide a concept Jesus will use in one of His sermons recorded in Matthew.  In Psalm 37:10-11 we read “In just a little while, the wicked will be no more; though you look carefully at his place, he will not be there. But the meek shall inherit the land and delight themselves in abundant peace.”  Here we see the real deal for the wicked as opposed to God’s chosen.  Watch the progression in the following sections of Psalm 37.

In verse 8, he had this to say “Refrain from anger, and forsake wrath!  Fret not yourself; it tends only to evil.  For the evildoers shall be cut off, but those who wait for the LORD shall inherit the land.

Then again in verse 21 “The wicked borrows but does not pay back, but the righteous is generous and gives; for those blessed by the LORD shall inherit the land, but those cursed by him shall be cut off.

Again in verse 27, “Turn away from evil and do good; so shall you dwell forever.  For the LORD loves justice; he will not forsake his saints.  They are preserved forever, but the children of the wicked shall be cut off. The righteous shall inherit the land and dwell upon it forever.”

Finally, in Psalm 37:39-40 the Psalmist concludes “The salvation of the righteous is from the LORD; he is their stronghold in the time of trouble.  The LORD helps them and delivers them; he delivers them from the wicked and saves them, because they take refuge in him.”

What a great place to find refuge!
