I Will…

I’m working on  a personal Bible study.  Over the last couple of years, I’ve spent a lot of time in the Psalms, and noticed a lot of recurring themes and phrases.  One of them that has taken me is “I will”.  It comes from at least two different perspectives, that of the psalmist, saying what he will do, and the other from the LORD, telling us what He will do.  Both are great studies.  I think I’ll start with those from the psalmist’s point of view and see what is in his mind, then look back and see what God will do.

Feel free to study along with me.  If you’d like some advance reading material, there’s always the Psalms.  Open your Bible to the middle and you’ll find them.  You can also pick up a copy of P B Power’s “The ‘I Wills’ of the Psalms” if you can find it.  This will not serve as a study text, but it will certainly be good background reading.

I’m still working out the details on how I will organize the study.  It will be a combination of specific themes and studies of an entire Psalm.  More on that later.

If you like the Psalms, there is some great music out there.  After all, the Psalms were made to be sung – they were the hymnbook of the Israeli people.  The Sons of Korah, a group from Australia, has at least five CDs, and the text is pretty much literal.  Sovereign Grace Music has a CD taken from the Psalms, but the text is more stylized and adapted.  Then there are the chants.  There are some great Gregorian chants put out by Gloria Dei Cantores.
