Lassen Volcanic National Park

We were originally disappointed about this stop.  It seems that the road through the park was still closed for the winter, in MAY!  So, we wouldn't be able to go from the north entrance, through the devastated area, which was created in May, 1915 in a series of eruptions that spanned a number of days, to the southern entrance and the sulphur works and Bumpass' Hell.  Fortunately, we came up with a great plan, which worked out very well.  We would go first to the north entrance (where the visitor's center was closed on Saturdays, but the ranger still gave Denise the stamp for her book), detour to Burney Falls, 45 miles north of the park, and then drive back around the park and go in at the south entrance.  It was a long day of driving, but well worth it.
